Indian government urges investors in the country to be patient over reform and development

New Delhi: The Indian union minister MR M Venkaiah Naidu urged the Indian industry to be patient with the government over reforms and development in the country. He said that the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fast tracking reforms and development and so the industry should be patient. The minister’s comments came in the wake of criticism of the government failure to bring change after the government was elected nine months ago. The government was on the receiving end from prominent banker Deepak Parekh who said that businessmen had started becoming impatient with the government’s failure to bring change.

MR Venkaiah Naidu said that he is pushing for reforms but is pushing for the reforms carefully. He said that while doing reforms he had to take along some people with him and that was the way forward in his reform policy. He stated that there is the system and constitutions to be followed when trying to bring about reforms. He made those remarks while addressing members in the industry body CII. He asked for patience because the government was just nine months old in office.

The minister went ahead to laud the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the government has been in fact running and not walking. He said most governments at nine months would be walking. The minister assured industry players that Modi wants actions reforms, and development. While referring to Parekh’s recent comments, MR Naidu said that some people were happy with the government while others are critical of the government.

Another top banker in India also pointed out that the pace of change in the country was slow.  But the minister defended the government. The minister said that even as they were working fast to bring change they had to do it within the confines of the law or else they risk being dictators. He said that the country was not in emergency rule and they did not want emergency rule either. He said that all they want is urgency but not emergency. The minister told governments critics to realize that while bringing change fast was necessary they also got to understand that India is a democracy where they must follow the constitution.
